Last year, I had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful island of Sardinia. In recent years, the Mediterranean has, I think, become one of my favorite regions in the world so far. Here is a bit about why I loved Sardinia so much…
Neptunes’ Grotto was one of the most amazing places I have ever seen. We accessed the grotto by foot, descending a stairway of 654 steps that was cut into the cliff in 1954. The Grotto can also be accessed via boat, for those less able/adventurous. Of course one must bear in mind that if you decide to walk down, you will have to walk back up! But these are the best 654 steps that you will ever walk.
Neptune’s grotto is one of the largest marine caves in Italy and one of the most captivating gems of nature in the Mediterranean . The grotto was formed about two million years ago

In addition to the grotto, the beaches were definitely a winner, powdery sand, clear, warm and shallow waters… As good as any Caribbean beach. And clean!
We hired a car, and were able to get around really easily. Other than the panic of driving “on the other side of the road”, it was definitely worth having our own transport. We were able to visit a wider variety of beaches, drive to neighboring towns and villages, and generally maximize our time on the island. I am not one for lounging in the sun all day, and it would have been such a waste to not enjoy more of what Sardinia had to offer.
